It is the centrepiece of this medieval village but the village itself is interesting. It used to be a sea port in the 12th century but then the sea retreated. There are plenty of smaller things to see: The Tithe Barn; The Yarn Market; the ancient dovecote and the nearby bridge. Dunster is also a good starting place for a number of walks. It has a Country Fair in July, the Dunster Show in August and s Village festival on the Spring Bank Holiday.

Lynmouth is remembered for the flood of 1952 when the East and West Lyn rivers filled and carried large rocks down onto the village, destroying houses, roads and bridges. Many lost their lives. There is a Flood Memorial Hall and a Power of Water attraction called the Glen Lyn gorge.
Tarr Steps There is controversy over the age of these massive slabs spanning the River Barle. Some think the slabs of gritstone are prehistoric others believe they are medieval.
